The development of polymeric gate dielectric materials has been fundamental to the progress of organic electronic circuitry. But technologies that employ this type of circuitry will only gain acceptance if electronic devices can be produced at a significantly lower cost than current, capital-intensive manufacturing technologies allow. Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) component materials that can be deposited via solution process methodologies, such as printing, remain a prime goal of organic electronics. This invention affords the synthesis of optimized, cross-linked polymer blend (CPB) dielectrics for application in OFET manufacturing. These new CPB formulations enable variable thickness and capacitances and can be fabricated on conventional silicone substrates as well as on flexible substrates. The CPB dielectrics exhibit excellent insulating properties and tunable capacitance values. OFETs fabricated with these new CPB dielectric films exhibit good performance for both p-type and n-type organic semiconductors.
